Popping Up for Paid Leave: Thimble™ Joins More Than 50 Brands in a Landmark Day of Care

Press Release

Redondo Beach, CA — This Mother’s Day weekend, Thimble™ is proud to join Paid Leave for All and more than 50 mission-driven brands for a national day of care and community. On May 10, 2025, pop-up events will take place in cities across the country to celebrate moms and caregivers — while calling for policies that benefit every member of society, including a national paid leave program.

On Saturday, May 10, pop-up events across the country will offer free services, thoughtful gifts, and moments of joy and connection for mothers and caregivers. This initiative, in partnership with MomsRising, is not just about celebration — it’s about progress. With more than $100,000 in donated goods and services, including contributions from leading brands like Ritual, HATCH, Perelel Health, and Thimble, the campaign is a powerful reminder that paid leave is not a luxury — it’s a necessity that benefits all of society.

At Thimble, our mission is rooted in care — for patients, families, and the clinicians who serve them. Our founder, a board-certified dermatologist and mother of two, started Thimble after a traumatic first vaccine visit with her daughter. That appointment was distressing for everyone involved: her child, herself, and the pediatrician. That moment revealed how deeply accepted — and deeply unnecessary — procedural pain had become in routine care.

Thimble was created to bring more ease to needle experiences for all. It is the first and only comprehensive platform of pain- and stress-reducing products for needle procedures. Prepare is designed to prevent pain using 4% maximum-strength lidocaine to numb the skin. Recover, powered by turmeric and arnica, provides relief from soreness, bruising, and swelling after needle procedures. Both patches can be paired with an evidence-based app to help manage fear and anxiety. We believe healthcare can be more empathetic — and more effective — when it supports both physical and emotional wellbeing.

Thimble is contributing both its Prepare and Recover patches to help mothers and families feel more at ease during and after needle procedures — a small act of care that reflects a much larger mission: to bring compassion back to healthcare.
“As a physician, I was familiar with needle pain. But as a mom, nothing prepared me for the first time I brought my daughter in for her shots. She looked up at me — confused, scared, and betrayed — and I realized just how unsupported all of us were: me, my child, even our pediatrician,” said Thimble’s founder, Manju Dawkins, MD. “I knew we could do better. Thimble was created not just to reduce pain, but to create more ease for everyone involved. That’s what care should look like — in our clinics, and in our country.”

This campaign arrives at a critical time. The United States remains one of the only industrialized nations without a national paid leave policy. Nearly 1 in 4 mothers return to work within two weeks of giving birth. Families lose more than $34 billion annually due to the lack of paid leave, while a federal program would circulate those dollars back into the economy — putting an estimated $0.50 back into local businesses for every $1 spent.
Paid leave strengthens entire economies. It increases workforce participation, improves long-term health outcomes, supports small businesses, and relieves pressure on healthcare systems. It gives families time to heal, bond, and care — without financial penalty.

Last year’s “Closed for Paid Leave” campaign sparked a national conversation, with more than 80 businesses shuttering their doors in solidarity and generating over 3.7 million impressions. This year, instead of closing doors, doors are being opened — to community, to care, and to the future we all deserve.

Thimble is honored to contribute both our Prepare and Recover patches to this year’s care packages and national giveaway, and to stand alongside fellow purpose-driven brands in a collective effort to reshape how we support caregivers in this country.
Because supporting moms supports everyone.
